The Republican National Committee issued a caution on Wednesday, suggesting that the Democratic Socialists of America’s (DSA) recent commendation of Fidel Castro could negatively impact Democratic candidates in the upcoming November elections. This warning followed the DSA’s online tribute to the late Cuban dictator and their demand for the prosecution of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, citing his involvement in the U.S. administration's policies concerning Cuba.

Rubio, whose parents immigrated from Cuba, had previously denounced Castro’s legacy in a post on X last Thursday, coinciding with the anniversary of Castro’s death. He did not specifically name the DSA in his remarks.

"Fidel Castro was a complete failure at everything except destroying Cuba and impoverishing, jailing and murdering his own people," Rubio stated.

"I strongly suggest that anyone tempted to try and follow his example should carefully reconsider, because if they do they would be dooming themselves to failure as well."

DSA Praises Castro, Demands Rubio's Prosecution

The DSA’s statement characterized Castro, who led Cuba for nearly five decades after the 1959 revolution, as a symbol of anti-imperialist resistance.

"Fidel was an organizer, a fighter, and endures as a stalwart symbol of anti-imperialist struggle and self-determination for the Global South," the organization declared.
