LaMelo Ball, the prominent guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, has reportedly brought on a personal driver to assist with his transportation. This development was shared by his older brother, Lonzo Ball, who recently offered insights into his sibling's habits during a podcast appearance.
During a recent episode of the "Curious Mike" podcast, Lonzo Ball engaged in a conversation with Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr., where the topic of spending habits among the Ball brothers arose.
"Who in your family out of y'all three spends the most [money]," Porter inquired.
"The one who has the most, LaMelo," Lonzo responded.
LaMelo Ball's Vehicle Ownership and Road Incidents
Lonzo further elaborated on LaMelo's notable collection of luxury vehicles, stating that his brother owns "10 cars." The decision to employ a driver could potentially reduce LaMelo's time behind the wheel, thereby minimizing opportunities for involvement in road incidents.
Lonzo also suggested that his brother might benefit from choosing more practical vehicles, moving away from the exotic models such as Lamborghinis and other high-performance cars he has previously owned.
"He'll buy a $1 million car and then just immediately f–k it up, I've never understood [that]," Lonzo remarked, referring to his brother's approach to his vehicles. "You just bought that? And then you ripped it up? You could've just got a beater," the former Los Angeles Lakers guard commented.
Addressing the public perception surrounding the frequency of LaMelo’s road occurrences, Lonzo clarified that his younger brother "doesn’t get into accidents, but he has a lot of situations on the road."
LaMelo, a two-time All-Star, was initially selected by the Charlotte Hornets as the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. In June, the Hornets traded him and teammate Josh Green to the Timberwolves in exchange for Naz Reid and multiple draft selections, marking his transition to his current team.
Lonzo Ball Reflects on Injuries and Career Path
Lonzo Ball's own journey in the NBA has been significantly affected by injuries. Drafted second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017, he later played for the New Orleans Pelicans and the Chicago Bulls. His career then saw him join the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2025, followed by a trade to the Utah Jazz in February 2026, though he was subsequently waived by the Jazz before appearing in a game for the team.
A substantial portion of Lonzo's professional career has been spent recovering from injuries. After participating in 35 games during the 2021-22 season, he endured an absence of more than two calendar years from competitive play.
"It was like a 1,000 and something days," Ball shared, reflecting on the extensive period he was sidelined. He added that he has since come to terms with the possibility that he may not return to the same level of athletic performance he once achieved.
"I came at peace with that when I got hurt the first time. Every time you get hurt it kind of sets you back," Ball conveyed to Porter.
