Actor Andrew Garfield recently faced scrutiny on social media following remarks he made about billionaires while discussing his upcoming film, "The Uprising," at a special screening in Los Angeles.
During a question-and-answer session with director Paul Greengrass, captured in a video by The Movie Report, Garfield elaborated on the historical action drama. "The Uprising" chronicles England's 1381 Peasants' Revolt, an event set in the wake of the Black Death. The narrative focuses on how King Richard II's court imposed severe taxes to fund the Hundred Years' War, pushing the common populace to their breaking point.
An audience member inquired about Garfield's aspirations for viewers after watching the film, asking, "What are you hoping for?"
Garfield responded, "Well, first I hope they come and see it, first thing. Secondly, I hope it's galvanizing. I hope there's some awakening that people feel … that we all feel like our own struggles are being reflected in the struggles of these characters from a distant time and place and that it could be directive."
He then added a provocative comment: "And I hope that if any billionaires watch it, they're scared sh--less."
